Fenugreek seeds have been used in traditional medicine for over 2500 years.1 They are used in Herbal Medicine as a galactogogue to help promote the production of milk, the optimal source of nutrition for babies.2 Fenugreek is also used in Herbal Medicine as a supportive therapy for the promotion of healthy glucose levels. Research has found that the fibre content in fenugreek delays carbohydrate digestion and glucose absorption, which decreases postprandial glucose levels.3 Fenugreek seeds promote lipid digestion by increasing both bile formation in the liver and the conversion of cholesterol into bile acids.1 By promoting the excretion of bile acids, fenugreek also decreases elevated blood lipid levels, including total cholesterol, LDL, VLDL, and triglycerides.1
